This post is meant to be helpful for all levels of SEO expertise. You can also find DIYSEO posts classified by level of expertise on the following pages:
- Posts for any SEO experience level
- Posts for beginner level SEO (those new to SEO)
- Posts for those with an intermediate level of SEO understanding
- Posts for those with an advanced level of SEO understanding
Here at DIYSEO we read a lot of blogs – from SEO blogs to general small business marketing blogs – and it helps us stay on top of trends and learn new tricks and processes so that we can continually improve our SEO software, find new content for our members-only SEO library, and continue to offer great and cutting edge service through our jumpstart program.
But the reality is: this is our business. Your business is likely something else – that’s precisely why you rely on companies like DIYSEO to help guide you through the online optimization process. As a result, you don’t have time to read tens or hundreds of blogs to stay up to date on the latest in SEO. To help SMB owners who want to know enough about SEO to be up to date without being totally inundated with information, we’ve compiled a quick list of five great resources for learning the SEO basics:
- The Official Webmaster Central Blog – This is a really great resource to learn “from the horse’s mouth” about the latest updates and to learn more about the way that Google thinks about their search results.
- Search Engine Land – If you had to pick just one blog or site to visit every day to stay on top of search marketing, this would probably be it. Danny Sullivan, Barry Schwartz, and Matt McGee do an amazing job of curating and reporting on SEO news, and there are some fantastic original how-to content as well. There is even a great daily SEO recap that lets you get a lot of the most important information in a single daily update.
- Matt Cutts’ Blog - We actually think the Google Webmaster Blog is a better resource on the whole as it updates more frequently and offers a number of different voices, but Matt Cutts is Google’s highest ranking anti-spam engineer and frequently addresses SEO related questions on his Blog.
- Search Engine Watch – The folks at Search Engine Watch have a frequently updated blog that features a great mix of news and how-to content from some of the best minds in the space.
- Search Engine Journal – Ann Smarty does a great job managing and curating the SEJ blog, which features an excellent blend of search and tech news mixed with great in-depth paid and natural search engine marketing content.
Reading all or even a few of these blogs will keep you connected to much of the most important SEO information – and of course you’ll also want to subscribe to the DIYSEO blog and try the software if you’re really looking to improve your organic search results
